Banggood vs DHgate

Both sell you on protection, in opposite ways. DHgate holds your money in escrow until the parcel arrives. Banggood is the seller and gives a warranty.

Banggood

A shop rather than a marketplace, and the only one here with a warranty of its own.

BRecommended with a reservation

DHgate

Real escrow, and a complaint window that closes far earlier than the headline says.

Pricing side by side

Banggood

Price level: Mid-range

Banggood sets its own prices, because it is the seller. They sit above Temu and AliExpress, and there is no single figure worth quoting.

EU: VAT has been in the selling price since 1 July 2021, and if a courier charges it again Banggood refunds the VAT on the invoice, though not the courier's handling fee. Duties are not collected at checkout. If you bought its tariff service with the order and customs then bills you, Banggood reimburses the duty and processing costs, up to 60 percent of the item value. Without that service, the duty is yours.

None of the Banggood tax pages we read mentions the 2026 changes in the EU or the US. The general tax article is dated 15 September 2021.

DHgate

Price level: Budget

Listings are priced in tiers that fall as the quantity grows, so there is no single figure worth quoting.

EU: DHgate collects VAT itself on goods up to EUR 150, and above that you pay it yourself. Customs duties are "never covered by DHgate", so the carrier collects them on delivery. The guidance still splits at EUR 150, which stopped being the line for duties on 1 July 2026.

US: its tax article is written for resellers and says nothing about sales tax at checkout or about the 2026 changes.

Strengths and weaknesses

Banggood

What works

  • A published warranty by category, a year on laptops, phones and 3D printers and two years on solid state drives
  • Banggood is the seller, so there is no seller lottery and one name on the invoice
  • EU VAT has been in the price since July 2021, with a refund if customs charges it again
  • Over 30 warehouses worldwide, so part of the range ships from local stock

What does not

  • Fourteen days to change your mind on most categories, the shortest headline window of the seven
  • You pay return shipping, and any customs on the way back, for anything that is not a fault
  • Duty cover is a paid add-on, reimbursed after the fact and capped at 60 percent of the item value
  • Priced as a retailer, above the budget marketplaces on this page

DHgate

What works

  • Payment held in escrow and released only when you confirm receipt
  • A refund without returning the item, stated for seller-fault claims within 21 days
  • Wholesale tier pricing that beats the retail marketplaces at quantity
  • Green Shipping Protection covering lost, delayed or damaged parcels in eight named countries

What does not

  • The not-as-described window is 7 or 21 days, not the 30 the headline suggests
  • One dispute per order, once the seller has shipped
  • The category lists that decide which window applies are published as images
  • No platform rule on who pays return shipping, so it is set per seller in each listing

Frequently asked questions

Is DHgate cheaper than Banggood?
At quantity, usually yes, because DHgate prices its listings in tiers that fall as the order grows. Banggood sets its own retail prices as the seller. On a single item the gap narrows. We did not run a basket comparison, so compare at the quantity you actually need.
Which one gives me more time to complain?
Banggood, if the problem is a fault: its warranty runs by category from receipt, from 15 days on batteries to a year on laptops, phones and 3D printers and two years on solid state drives. A no-reason return is 14 days from receipt on most categories. DHgate leads with 30 days after you confirm receipt, but its not-as-described route closes 7 or 21 days after delivery depending on category, with one dispute per order. Verified on 30 August 2026 for DHgate and 27 October 2026 for Banggood.
Who holds my money?
DHgate, in escrow, until you confirm receipt, so no seller is paid before you have checked the parcel. Banggood has no escrow because it is the seller. There the protection is its own return and warranty policy.
Who pays return shipping?
On Banggood, you, for anything that is not a quality fault, plus any customs on the way back. On DHgate there is no platform rule: each seller sets its own policy in the listing. DHgate does state a refund without returning the item for seller-fault claims raised within 21 days.
Will I pay customs on an order to the EU?
Possibly, on both. DHgate collects EU VAT itself on goods up to EUR 150 and states that customs duties are never covered. Banggood puts EU VAT in the price and reimburses duties afterwards only if you bought its tariff service with the order, capped at 60 percent of the item value. Neither help centre mentions the 2026 changes.
Which one should I use?
DHgate when you want ten or more of the same item and would rather the money waited in escrow while you check them. Banggood for one piece of electronics you need to keep working, a drone, a 3D printer, a laptop, with a warranty from the store behind it. On DHgate, open the parcel the day it arrives.
