The one that promises you will never see a customs bill
Of the six platforms in our comparison, SHEIN makes the clearest statement about what you will pay, and it makes it in both directions.
For the EU: "Your checkout total shows the full amount payable for your order, including applicable import taxes and delivery... You only need to pay once, at checkout." For the US it goes further: "You'll never be asked to pay any tariffs or additional fees before or after your package is delivered... Any outside information claiming that you have to pay tariffs separately for your SHEIN items is false."
That is worth more than it was a year ago. The US suspension of duty-free de minimis now covers every non-postal shipment and the EU removed its EUR 150 duty relief in July, so parcels that used to arrive clean now carry a duty line. SHEIN is one of only two platforms here that absorbs it into the price, and the comparison sets out the dates and the sources.
SHEIN scores 7.8 under how we rate and it holds our clothing pick.
Thirty days, ninety days, and the difference
Two clocks, and the distinction matters more than the numbers.
Thirty days from delivery to return most items for any reason. Third-party sellers can set a longer or shorter window and it is shown on the listing, so check before you buy from one.
Ninety days from the order date to report an item that arrived faulty or damaged. SHEIN states it will "investigate the issue and provide a suitable solution, including a refund if applicable".
So a jumper you simply do not like has thirty days. A jumper with a seam coming apart has ninety. Almost nobody knows the second clock exists and it is the one that saves an order.
The first return of one or more items from any order is free. For a second or later return from the same order, $7.99 comes off your refund. Temu uses the same figure and the same structure.
The list of things you cannot send back
Here is the catch, and it is a real one.
Bodysuits, lingerie, underwear, jewellery, accessories, cosmetics, pet products, clearance items and anything marked final sale. Plus free gifts and customised items.
Read that list against what SHEIN actually sells. Accessories and jewellery are not an edge case here, they are a large part of the catalogue and a large part of a typical basket. Buying them is a one-way transaction and the product page is where that gets disclosed, which is late.
Everything else has to come back in new, unworn condition with tags and hygiene stickers intact, and SHEIN reserves the right to reduce or refuse a refund on anything that fails inspection. That is standard for clothing and it is stricter here than at a domestic retailer.
Where the catalogue stops
Fashion, homeware, accessories, and then it thins out fast.
There are electronics listings and you should not buy electronics here. AliExpress has a catalogue this cannot approach, and DHgate holds the money in escrow until you confirm the parcel arrived, which is the protection that matters when a component fails. What SHEIN has built is a clothing operation with sizing information and review photography that make ordering unseen workable, and none of the countdown theatre Temu runs. It is the highest experience score of the six.
One thing this review cannot settle. SHEIN attracts sustained scrutiny over its supply chain and labour practices, and no return policy answers that. We compared published terms, which is what this page is for, and it would be dishonest to let a good returns section read as a clean bill of health.
Who should buy it
Buy from SHEIN for clothing, homeware and accessories at volume, and use the thirty days rather than the ninety, because the ninety is for faults and not for regret.
Buy from it if you want the import question settled once at checkout, which is now a genuine advantage over five of the six alternatives here.
Do not buy the categories on the non-returnable list unless you are certain, because there is no route back. Do not buy electronics here. And if you want a specific thing rather than a category of thing, this is the wrong page and AliExpress is the right one.
Return windows, exclusions and import tax statements on this page were read from the vendor return policy and import tax pages on . We placed no orders and publish no delivery times.
