Best AI Writing Tools for Blog Posts in 2026

Last reviewed 29 August 2026Data verified 29 August 2026Four picks, one role each

The short answer

For most blog publishing, Jasper is the strongest AI writing tool because it holds one brand voice across a whole content series. Copy.ai gives five seats for $29/month, Rytr is the only genuinely usable free option, and Frase is the pick when the post has to rank.

We compared these four against the vendor pricing pages and published documentation on . We did not run a hands-on test of every tool, and we do not claim to have. What follows is a comparison of published capability, published limits and published prices.

Why the order is not the score order

Copy.ai scores 7.9 and Jasper scores 7.7, which is close. Jasper takes Best Overall anyway, because the question that slot answers is "what should most people use", and holding a brand voice across twenty posts matters more there than saving forty dollars a month.

The reverse is also true. Sudowrite scores 7.7, higher than two of our picks, and it is not in the four. Its strengths are built for fiction, and none of them transfer to a post that has to rank in search. A score is a property of the product, not a queue position.

The one thing that decides this category

Structure across length.

Every tool here writes a competent paragraph. The gap opens somewhere around the thousand-word mark, where a draft either keeps its argument or turns into four disconnected sections that repeat each other. That is why capability carries the heaviest weight in the criteria set, and it is the single thing worth testing during a trial.

How we picked

What we scored, and how heavily

Criteria set: Software and apps. The same set applies to every product of this type across the site, so a score means the same thing wherever you find it.

  • 30%Capability. What the tool actually does versus what it promises.
  • 20%Usability. How fast you can get real work done in it.
  • 20%Value. What you get for the money against the alternatives.
  • 10%Integrations. Fit with the rest of your stack, and API access.
  • 10%Support. Documentation, response times, available channels.
  • 10%Trust. Company stability, security, pricing transparency, data handling.

Re-weighted for this category

  • Capability: Unchanged. Long-form structure is still the thing that separates these tools.

The picks in detail

1. Best Overall

Jasper

A multi-agent marketing platform now, with brand voice still the reason to pay.

7.7/10
BRecommended with a reservation

The strongest brand-voice control in this category, with two reservations worth more than the price: the self-serve terms let Jasper train on what you write, and no plan tells you how much you are allowed to generate.

What works

  • Brand voice profiles are built from up to eight samples and apply across a whole content series
  • Agents cover named marketing workflows rather than one document at a time
  • Per-seat pricing is public, with annual billing about 20 percent cheaper
  • Eighteen integrations are named publicly, including Word, Google Docs, Slack and Webflow

What does not

  • At $69 per seat per month it costs roughly nine times the cheapest tool here
  • The self-serve terms let Jasper develop its models on your inputs and outputs, and the only opt-out is an email
  • No word, generation or credit allowance is published for Pro, and the fair use policy can throttle against limits it never states
  • API access, Grid and unlimited brand voices are Business only, on a quote and a 12-month commitment

Best for

  • Marketing teams publishing several posts a week under one brand voice
  • Agencies running content for multiple clients from one workspace

Not for

  • Solo writers publishing a post or two a month
  • Anyone who needs a free tier to evaluate before paying

What it costs

From $69 per month · 7-day trial

Jasper pricing tiers
PlanMonthlyAnnual, per monthWhat you get
ProIncludes 1 seat$69$59Canvas, agents for core marketing workflows, browser extension · 2 brand voices, 5 knowledge assets and 3 audiences · History and backups kept 7 days · 7-day trial that requires a card and converts automatically · No API access, and no published word, generation or credit allowance
BusinessQuote only, 12-month minimum commitmentNot publishedUnlimited brand voices, knowledge assets and audiences · API and MCP access, Jasper Grid, no-code custom agents · SSO, SAML, SCIM, admin controls and team usage analytics · A base credit allowance whose size is not published

Priced per seat, with annual billing about 20 percent cheaper. Business is quote only and starts at a 12-month commitment. Jasper publishes no word, generation or credit allowance for Pro anywhere: the Fair Use Policy reserves the right to throttle against parameters it does not state, and the credit rate card referenced in the help centre is not published. The pricing page sells Pro with 2 brand voices, 5 knowledge assets and 3 audiences, while the Jasper IQ help article says IQ is available on Business plans, so the vendor contradicts itself on what Pro includes.

2. Best Value

Copy.ai

Five seats and unlimited chat words for $29 a month, with a choice of underlying models.

7.9/10
ARecommended

The best price per seat in the category, and the only tool here where a five-person team costs the same as one person.

What works

  • Five seats included at $29 per month, where competitors charge per seat
  • Switch between OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini models inside one subscription
  • Unlimited words in chat rather than a monthly word or credit cap
  • Annual billing drops the price to $24 per month

What does not

  • API access is reserved for the enterprise tier
  • The next plan above $29 is $1,000 per month billed annually, so growing teams hit a cliff
  • The entry plan carries no workflow credits, so workflows, agents and tables are not part of what you buy
  • The product is being folded into Fullcast, a revenue operations platform, after the October 2025 acquisition

Best for

  • Small teams that want several people writing without paying per seat
  • Writers who want to compare model outputs before committing to a draft

Not for

  • Teams that need API access without an enterprise contract
  • Anyone who needs a permanently free tier

What it costs

The $29 Chat plan is the only self-serve tier and the only one billed monthly. It carries seats, chat and model choice but no workflow credits. Workflow credits start on Growth at $1,000 per month billed annually, then $2,000 for Expansion and $3,000 for Scale, so there is nothing between a small team and a five figure annual contract. Copy.ai was acquired by Fullcast on 15 October 2025 and the product is being folded into that platform as Fullcast Propel.

3. Best Free

Rytr

A genuine free tier of 10,000 characters a month, and $7.50 a month for unlimited output.

7.3/10
BRecommended with a reservation

The best free tier in the category, with the reservation that long-form structure falls apart past about 1,000 words.

What works

  • A free plan of 10,000 characters a month with no credit card required
  • Unlimited generations for $7.50 a month, the cheapest paid entry here
  • 40+ use cases and 20+ tones available on the free plan, not gated
  • Plagiarism checks included from the paid tiers up

What does not

  • Loses structure on posts beyond roughly 1,000 words and needs manual stitching
  • The help centre contradicts the pricing page on what the Unlimited plan includes
  • Extra team seats are $19 a month each, more than double the price of the first seat
  • No native integrations with publishing tools beyond the browser extension, and the API is billed separately

Best for

  • Writers who want to test AI drafting before spending anything
  • Solo bloggers publishing a few short posts a month

Not for

  • Teams that expect the per-seat price to fall as they add people
  • Anyone drafting long-form pillar content in one pass

What it costs

From $7.50 per month · free tier available

Rytr pricing tiers

Free$010,000 characters per month · 40+ use cases · 20+ tones · Chrome extension · No credit card required
Unlimited$7.50Unlimited generations · 1 custom tone of voice · 50 plagiarism checks per month
Premium$24.165 custom tones · Increased character input limits · 40+ languages · 100 plagiarism checks per month
Additional team seatPer extra member on Unlimited$19$190 per year per seat · Invited by email from the account owner

The free plan is capped in characters, not in features, so you can evaluate the real output quality before paying. Extra team members are $19 per month each on Unlimited, which is more than double the price of the first seat. The help centre pages that state that price also quote a retired Saver plan and describe the Unlimited plan as carrying five custom tones, where the pricing page gives it one, so treat the pricing page as current and the documentation as lagging.

4. Best for SEO-driven posts

Frase

Builds the brief from live SERP data, then tracks whether AI engines cite the result.

7.6/10
BRecommended with a reservation

The best research-to-draft loop for search-led blogging, with the reservation that the 10-article cap on the entry plan is tight.

What works

  • Builds the outline from the pages currently ranking, not from the model memory
  • Content scoring shows what a draft is missing against the live SERP
  • Every tier has the full feature set, with volume as the only difference
  • Extra seats are a published $29 per month rather than a sales conversation

What does not

  • The Starter plan caps you at 10 articles a month and has no overage option, so 11 means upgrading
  • At $49 a month it costs more than a general writing tool that has no SEO layer
  • Custom API access sits on Enterprise, while the homepage advertises API and CLI more broadly
  • The AI engines you can track depend on the tier, with Claude and Gemini reserved for Scale

Best for

  • Bloggers who write for search and want the brief built from real SERP data
  • Small content teams that need a shared content score to argue about

Not for

  • Writers publishing more than 10 posts a month on the cheapest tier
  • Anyone who does not care about search rankings

What it costs

From $49 per month · 7-day trial

Plans differ by volume, seats and how many AI engines are tracked rather than by core feature, so the cheapest tier is not a crippled version. Overages are pay as you go on Professional at $5 per extra article and on Scale at $4, which means Starter is the one tier that simply stops at its limit. FraseCMS hosting is included with a free tier and sold as a $19 or $99 add-on above it.

Also considered

These are good products that lost on a specific point. A higher score than one of our picks does not automatically win a slot, because each slot answers a different question.

  • Repositioned as an AI search visibility platform. At $79 a month for 15 articles it is the highest per-article cost here, and most of that price buys tracking rather than writing.

  • Sudowrite7.7/10

Scores 7.7, above two of our picks, but its story tools are built for fiction. For a blog that has to rank, the strengths do not transfer.

  • Wordtune7.4/10

Excellent at rewriting and cheap at $6.99 a month billed annually, but it does not produce a first draft, so it cannot carry a blog on its own.

How to choose between them

Start from your publishing volume, not from the feature list. Below four posts a month, the cheapest tool that produces a usable draft wins, because the time saved does not cover a large subscription. Above that, consistency of voice starts costing more than the subscription does.

What is actually holding your blog back?

One thing to check during any trial

Take a brief you have already written by hand and ask the tool to draft it. Compare the two at the 1,000-word mark, not at the first paragraph. That is where these tools separate, and it is the part a demo never shows you.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best free AI writing tool for blog posts?
Rytr. Its free plan gives 10,000 characters a month with no credit card and does not lock tones or use cases behind the paid tiers, verified on 29 August 2026. Structure breaks down past roughly 1,000 words, so outline first.
How much should an AI writing tool cost?
Between $7.50 and $69 per month for the tools in this comparison. Rytr Unlimited is $7.50, Copy.ai is $29 for five seats, Frase starts at $49, and Jasper is $69 per seat.
Can AI writing tools produce a publishable blog post on their own?
No. Every tool here produces a draft that needs a factual pass and an editing pass. What they change is the time from brief to first draft, not the need for an editor.
Does Google penalise AI-written blog posts?
Google penalises unhelpful content, not the method used to write it. Posts that add nothing beyond what already ranks will struggle whether a person or a model wrote them.
Which of these tools has an API?
Rytr is the only pick here with API access on a self-serve plan, and it is billed separately from the subscription. Jasper reserves the API for Business and Copy.ai for enterprise, so both are a quote rather than a checkbox. Frase puts custom API access on Enterprise, and Sudowrite and Wordtune publish none.
  • Best AI Assistants

Four AI assistants compared on the full price ladder, the limits each vendor publishes, and what happens to what you type. Figures verified 29 August 2026.
