The pricing page has two plans on it that have no price
Start with the thing you can check yourself in ten seconds, because it shapes everything else.
xAI's pricing page lists Free, SuperGrok at $30 per month, SuperGrok Plus at $100, and Enterprise on request. It also lists SuperGrok Lite and SuperGrok Heavy by name in the comparison table, with no price and no feature detail against either.
Third-party write-ups fill that gap with a figure for Heavy. We do not, because no xAI page we could open states one, and a number everybody repeats is not the same as a number the vendor publishes. The consequence for a buyer is concrete: you cannot see the ladder you are stepping onto, and you cannot tell whether the plan above yours is a small step or a large one.
The bundling adds to it. X Premium and Premium Plus both state increased usage limits on Grok. Neither says what those limits are, or how they compare to a SuperGrok subscription you might be paying for separately.
What thirty dollars buys against twenty everywhere else
SuperGrok is the highest paid entry price in our assistant comparison. ChatGPT Plus, Gemini AI Pro and Perplexity Pro all sit around twenty, and Claude Pro is lower still on annual billing.
For the premium you get Grok 4.6, image and video generation, Grok Bot, higher rate limits and expert support. What you do not get is the connector set, because that is already on the free tier, and neither is the real time web and X search or voice mode. The free plan here is unusually complete, and that cuts both ways: it is generous, and it makes the paid tier harder to justify.
Grok scores 7.2 and value is the criterion carrying that number down.
Connectors are the real reason to look at this
The part of Grok that is genuinely ahead of the field is the integration surface, and it is on every tier.
Seven connectors are built in: Gmail and Google Calendar, Google Drive, OneDrive, Outlook mail and calendar, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint and Salesforce. A wider catalogue adds GitHub, Notion and Linear among others. On top of that, xAI supports bringing your own MCP servers.
That last part matters more than the list. Most assistants in this category let you connect to what the vendor has built. This one lets you connect to what you have built, without an enterprise contract.
Live X search is the other differentiator, and how much it is worth depends entirely on whether what is being said on X is part of your job. For a journalist, a trader or a communications team, it is. For most people it is a feature they will use twice.
Private Chat is a retention promise, not a training promise
Read this carefully, because the two are easy to conflate and xAI's documentation does not separate them for you.
The privacy policy names Private Chat and commits to deleting those conversations within thirty days, absent a legal or security hold. That is a retention commitment, clearly stated.
What we could not find on any xAI page is a named control for objecting to your content being used for training. OpenAI names Data Controls, Google names Keep Activity, and Anthropic at least presents training as a setting you choose. xAI documents a deletion window and leaves the training question to a general statement about publicly available internet data.
If the training default is what decides your purchase, this is the vendor in the category that gives you the least to work with. Microsoft Copilot is the opposite end of that scale.
Where the compliance story does not add up
The pricing page states SOC 2 compliance in the feature list. The security page, which is where a certification claim belongs, names no certification at all: it talks about safeguards in general terms, points at a trust portal and a bug bounty, and stops.
Enterprise offers customisable service levels, customer-managed encryption keys, a dedicated data plane, SCIM and audit controls, all of which sound right and none of which carries a published figure. No numeric service level appears anywhere.
Taken with the two unpriced plans, this is the least complete disclosure of any vendor we compared, and it is most of the reason this page does not score higher on trust under how we rate.
Who it is actually for
Use the free tier if live X search is what you came for, because that is where it already is. Buy SuperGrok when the rate limits start biting, or when you want image and video generation from the same subscription.
Do not buy it as a general assistant. You would be paying a premium over the twenty dollar shelf for a product whose own price list is incomplete, and the two things that make Grok distinctive are both available before you pay anything.
